Avatar is spoken about everywhere. It is in 9 nominations for the Oscar 2010 and is likely to receive several awards. Avatar is a 2009 American science fiction movie written and directed by well-know movie director James Cameron. Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez as well as Stephen Lang play the starring parts. The term "avatar" originates in Hindu mythology. It denotes "god's visit to Earth to fix sth that is broken". Vishnu, one of the 3 gods who shield creation, visits Earth often. In Hindu mythology Vishnu is portrayed dark-blue. James Cameron has also decided to make the aliens blue. Set in the future on an alien planet called Pandora situated the Alpha Centauri star system, Avatar film tells the ever-lasting story of greed, immaturity and the violence arising out of ignorance. The plot of the story revolves around a soldier - Jack - who goes to Pandora the moon situated in the Alpha Centauri star system in order to help The Corporation aiming to mine and export unobtainium - a precious mineral. The Na'vi are the alien sentient humonoid civilisation thriving on the moon. They are a part of a vast symbiotic living system that contains both plants and animals which are all connected by a biological interaction network. The Corporation wants to mine the moon and the Na'vi fight against the conquerors for their fatherland. The rapid expansion and growth of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of the local tribe. Jack is taken in by the Na'vi and explores their culture, language and habitat. He falls in love with a female Na'vi who helps him when he is lost in the forest. Avatars are biological creations made from human and alien DNA. They are not self-aware and are controlled by a human being from whose DNA they were made. The soldier controls an avatar that is made from his brother's DNA. Avatar draws a rosy picture of an ideal world. The end of the movie is particularly touching. The visual effects are fantastic. The alien world Cameron and his professional team show to viewers is one of the most carefully thought-out and consistent. The movie is really worth viewing.
