Our contemporary world is full of mysterious things. A number of them cannot be explained even by scientific specialists. Others represent a group of illusions. World of illusions is great, not many people have good knowledge about it. Every person has noticed that when a spoon is dropped into water it seems broken, although in reality it isn't. There is a great range of other similar optical illusions. Observing various kinds of optical illusions is an excellent way of spending time for people with broad mind. An optical illusion is characterized by visually perceived images that differ from what they are in object reality. An eye gathers information that is processed by brain. As a consequence we get a percept that doesn't correspond to what is really displayed. The types of the illusions are different according to the object that forms this optical illusion. For example, literal illusions create images that differ from the objects that make them. You have probably seen the pictures where at first you notice a certain object, but when you look attentively you acknowledge that this picture is formed with the use of other objects. An example of this literal illusion is a figure-grounded vase. These pictures are commonly named ambiguous images. It is sometimes really difficult to see another image on the same picture. Physiological illusions have a certain effect on our eyes and brain and as a consequence we obtain an illusion of various parameters – brightness, color, movement, size. For instance, there are images where some things look as if they are of different size or color, when in objective reality they are the same. Visual illusion of Muller-Lyer with arrows is a good example of this sort of visual illusions. Cognitive illusions make our mind made not correct conclusions from what our eyes see. These are paradoxical and impossible objects such as Penrose triangle and impossible staircase, as well as hallucinations. Optical illusions represent a wonderful amusement for all the people. In addition, they help to look at our world from the other side. As a result your brain will become flexible that will certainly assist you in future.
